DESCRIPTION:


 
The Coroner's Office of Boulder County is hiring a Pathology Technician Supervisor. The position performs a variety of administrative, forensic, and analytical duties. The Supervisor also leads day-to-day administration and direction of pathology functions of the Coroner's Office. The Pathology Technician Supervisor manages within the framework of office policies and procedures, and is knowledgeable of all Coroner Office operations.

This is a full-time, benefited position with Boulder County. Work hours will vary. This position reports to the Coroner's Office, located in Boulder, CO. Under FLSA guidelines, this position is exempt from overtime.

Salary Range: $47,304.00 to $68,112.00 per year.
 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

1. Monitors the work of the division on a daily basis and assists pathology technicians in handling workflows, organizes and schedules the workflow and staffing for the pathology division of the office.
2. Supervises and directs pathology technicians within the framework of the departmental policies and procedures and conducts employee evaluations and counsels employees concerning performance.
3. Assists the Chief Deputy Coroner and Coroner in daily administration of the office and makes significant decisions on behalf of the Coroner's Office when needed.
4. Represents office at meetings or on committees with our office, departments or agencies.
5. Leads and directs various projects and specialized pathology functions to completion.
6. Participates as a member of management team in recommending personnel, policy and procedural decisions and changes.
7. Consults and briefs with Chief Deputy Coroner and Coroner on autopsies performed in the office.
8. Performs related work, as required.

Please Note: This position may be reassigned in emergency situations.
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree with a concentration in a human science field*, and four (4) years of combined related experience (such as, death/scene investigation, autopsy/surgical assisting, law enforcement, nursing, emergency medical services, organ/tissue procurement), and a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.

An associate's degree with a concentration in a human science field*, and at least six (6) years of combined related experience, and a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
 
~OR~
 
A high school diploma, or equivalent, and at least eight (8) years of combined related experience, and a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
 
*Human science field such as Biology, Criminalistics, Forensic Science, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Forensic Anthropology, Anatomy and Physiology or related field.
   
Please note that applicants must meet the following additional requirements:
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must pass a drug screen.
  • Must pass a polygraph examination.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to work days, nights, graveyard shifts, weekends, holidays and maintain on-call availability.
  • Must have less than a 45 minute response time to the office if not a resident of Boulder County.
 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of practices and procedures of professional medicolegal death investigation. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals who are under extreme stress. Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public.

Physical Requirements:
The Pathology Technician Supervisor spends significant time in a morgue environment, with associated conditions, hazards and/or biohazards. Formalin fixative is commonly used in the laboratory, precluding individuals who have a known allergy to this chemical.

• Constantly utilizes full scope of visual capacity to perform job tasks.
• Constantly utilizes eye, hand, and finger coordination to perform job tasks.
