Medicolegal Investigator (Dane County, WI)
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office in Madison, Wisconsin is seeking an individual to conduct death investigations to determine the cause and manner of death including the gathering of physical evidence, interviewing material witnesses and assisting with autopsies. Requires any combination of training and experience equivalent to an associate degree in police science, medical technology or related field and two years experience either performing criminal or civil investigations, including writing investigative reports. Special consideration given to candidates with American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigation (ABMDI) certification, prior death investigation experience, or backgrounds in associated forensic fields such as anthropology, photography, and radiology. Also requires possession of or eligibility for a valid Wisconsin driver’s license, and availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on short notice. Investigators will be required to carry county-issued cell phones and/or pagers for emergency response. Dane County residency is required following employment. Starting annual salary of $59,093 with merit increases to $76,814 and excellent benefits. This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibles list from which future vacancies in this classification may be filled. Anticipated exam: Written exam scheduled for Saturday, June 29 , 2013 at 9:00 a.m. (Information about the exam will be mailed to all applicants passing the requirements.) A background investigation and a physical and psychological exam will be required for qualifying candidates. ABMDI certification required within two years of hire.
