CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut is currently recruiting for the position of Chief Medical Examiner.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is an independent State agency responsible for the investigation of sudden, unexpected, or violent deaths in the State of Connecticut. It operates under the authority of Connecticut General Statutes 19a-400 et seq. and under the oversight of the Commission on Medicolegal Investigations. The Office has attained full accreditation from the National Association of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Forensic Toxicology.
The Office is located in Farmington, Connecticut on the campus of the University of Connecticut Health Center. Its mission is to provide accurate certification of the cause and manner of death and to identify, document and interpret relevant forensic scientific information for use in criminal and civil legal proceedings necessary in the investigation of violent, suspicious and sudden or unexpected deaths. It has jurisdiction over the entire State of Connecticut and is the only medical examiner office in the State. The Office has a staff of 5 physicians and 56 support staff. The Medical staff consists of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner and three Associate Medical Examiners. The facility conducts death investigations and autopsy services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
This position of Chief is responsible for directing the operations of the office. Applicants must be citizens of the United States eligible to be licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut. Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology, subspecialty training and certification in Forensic Pathology, and a minimum of five years of practice in forensic pathology is required.
